we were out quading in the forest reserve noth of us and in one of the hay meadows abandoned years ago was a sickle mower grown over with trees not sure who built it but on a cover was BIG 4 an older fella believed it was a john deere.Why the big 4 designation

Yes, it's just a John Deere No. 4 and later ones or maybe all the number 4 was called Big 4 on the hub cover. It was last horse drawn mower made by JD and could also be furnished with a tractor hitch, rubber tires and 6 ft. cutter bar options.

I think they were made by John Deere, but I don't why they were called the Big4. Hal
