You've got a good dealer there, hang on to him !! We're still using my 479 bought in 1972.Other than routine maintenance, the only thing we've rebuilt is the gearbox and that was our fault because we hadn't checked the oil level. This past spring, we installed all new guards and a new knife and it performs as good as new. BTW, we always install new guards when changing knives. This fall we've been tempted to buy a 499 only because it's been offered at a great price ---- however, we're gonna back out and stay with the old 479. 499 just appears to be that much more complicated than I'm comfortable with.

I have the 469, but I've always wanted a 479. If I were to do it again that is what I would have bought. The smaller head would've fit between narrow gates allowing me to do some custom work not thought about when making my original purchase.

I also think that there is to much flex in the 469's head, my cutter bar is easy to push in and out with no effort until you get to about the last 2 feet then it requres just a little more oomf when swapping out the bar. It has new guards and the keepers are all loose enough in that section so its not that. I've also seen more than a few 469's with the drawbar reinforced due to cracks or from being bent. (Mine included, but I bought it that way).

I think the 467 would be the much better unit... if I ever see one that is affordable I may have to purchase it and retire the 469.
