bought disk, needs some repair

Well, after posting the question about the worth of a 8 foot disk last week, I bought the disk, a 10 footer come to find out, for 200 bucks. Overall, after close inspection, all the blades are good, good frame, tires, the only problem however, it needs a new rod through the disks on the right front. It is badly bent. How much does a rod (if that what its called)cost,for a used one or new one?

tractormiallis, About 5 yrs ago I bought an old Krause B-211. The gang axle shhaft was bad, Had a local Machine Shop fabricated me a new one. (about 5 ft long) cost right at $100. Check there too!

Best supplier is probably Shoup. They have disk axles.

You should be able to straighten the gang bolt. A press would be the best way, but... if you're economical, you can probably do it with a sledge hammer on a decent heavy timber. Again, a hydraulic press would be better, but I've done it that way.
If it breaks, they can be welded. I've welded a lot of them. Otherwise, buy a new one. Just get the square of it (size), the length, and the blade spacing and count, and head to any farm equipment dealer. Any competent parts man will find a gang bolt in a book and order it for you. There are several aftermarket suppliers. If it was mine, and I didn't want to spend money on it, I'd straighten it and weld it if necessary....

Yep, its a krause. Has a real heavy frame, heavy disks, the axle is the only thing wrong, other than tightening a few bolts. The price of 200 a good deal, right?

Take the axle out and straighten it a hydraulic press.Used to do it all the time.Thank God for no-till and no more disks to keep repaired.

I looked at your previous post just now. The axle is the term used for that part. So you have a Krause? I had m a new axle ade for my 8 foot krause tandem at a machine shop I didnt ask a dealer Krause may still have them if not a machine shop can make you one very very easily just take them you old one and tell them to make one just like it. Krause disc's are good and heavy you should like it.

www.shoupparts.com had a couple pages of parts for Krause disks in the 2004 catalog that's handy to the computer. Including shafts from 26" to 100-3/4" in square and as many in round. Be sure to sitting when you find out the price.
