Do I have to pull the knotters off of the shaft to replace the knife arms or can they be replaced while in place?

I always replace them while on the knotter shaft,just swing the knotters up and pull the carter key out and usually take off the cam that holds tension on the billhook and wiggle them out and do the same thing putting them back on,about a ten minute job. HTH
