This must be the day for balers. I just bought this unit and I have never ran one before. Should the belts be turning when you start the bale? My belts wont turn until their is material in the baler also I have a belt thats twisted what causes this. Also the material I am trying to bale is short and seems to fall through the belts is this normal? Normal whats normal about putting up hay the week of Thanks giving!

I had a 605c umtil about a year ago. I used it for about 3 seasons. First big round baler I ever ran. It's a little tricky to get a bale started. I was told after I sold it that if you throttle back on the PTO speed so it's not a full 540 that the bale should be a little easier to start. I can't verify that bit of advice, but it does make some sense.

My belts were kinda loose and the Vermeer salesman who sold it to me (one with many, many years of hay making experience) told me that the belts on a 605c won't turn much until the chamber starts loading with hay. Once the bale got started, it made a decent bale. Be sure the gate is down and locked. I had to abort several bales because I didn't ensure the gate locked; if you don't, the bale will grow to about 1/2 size and then the hay just starts coming out the back of the baler, somthing you may not notice until you come to the end of the field!

Good luck

The first thing to remember with a Vermeer 605 C baler is it is a closed throat baler and it will tell you when your hay is too wet because it will not start a bale. For your baler, it is desirable that the belts just slowly creep when the baler is empty. If the belts are too tight you will not start a bale. It is better to be a little loose that too tight. A belt usually twists because it is much looser that the other belts and that is because of hay distribution of the wind row into the baler. Make wide larger windrows and you will have less problems with the belts twisting. It is a great help to starting the bales is you would replace the outside two 4" belts with one 10" belt. Make sure and use a 2 ply belt on the Vermeer C balers. Since the current baler belts are a little different construction that the 30 year old original belts lace all the belts to the same length. If you have any questions call 423-282-6969 ask for William and he will help you.

Ive got a MF 1560 baler which I believe is very similar to yours in that the belts get all screwey if I dont do the zigzag thing to feed the pickup evenly when Im starting a bale. Once it gets the idea it makes a decent bale though.

I got a MF1560 also, teisted the belts real good this summer. operator error, a block of wood an a come-a-long and you can get them straight again. But after that I make sure I zig-zag alot more.

Belts should be turning. Your belts are too long. Manual gives proper length of belts. Don't know about a C, but on the two Vermeers I have owned the outside belts are a different length.

Some material falling between the belts in short hay is normal, but not desirable.

Twisted belt is due to a lump of hay getting where it shouldn't be, like between two belts. Straighten it when you shorten the belts, or try twisting it back straight by hand(with tractor and baler not running).

Don't know about you, but down here hay any time would be welcome this dry year.
