I am looking to upgrade round balers before next season, just wondering pros and cons of some. I currently run a 435 JD with bale kicker and net wrap. I am leaning toward a Vermeer 604M, but have never seen one ran. What are your thoughts on the JD 468, NH BR750/ CIH RBX463, and the Vermeer 604M. I mostly bale coastal and sudan. Thanks

For what it's worth we've had a couple of red guys around here go from the Case IH/New Holland round balers to Deere's and they couldn't be happier. They say the Deere's will bale tough hay much better than the red balers.

Most bales around here are the 5x6' size. I like that size for handling and feeding but if you want to haul them very far on a truck they are too wide to haul without oversize permits.

I just purchased my second 605M. Between the baler and the dealer I couldn't be happier. We bale half alfalfa hay and cornstalks. This is a machine that was built for the toughest stalks and just happens it will still bale hay. The new netwrap system is fantastic and simple. I baled 555 bales last week in less than 12 hours baling time. Those are 605 bales. I can't imagine how many you could do an hour with a 604. Good choice here. Also, in 26 years of running Vermeer we have never waited for a part. But that is our dealers we have had. Can't say that for our local deere dealer.

Brad,I have a JD 467 mega-wide pick-up that I like better than any baler I've owned. All the others I owned were JD's. NH's seem to be good but one doesn't see any Vermeer's around here. Tx Jim

The last time I was at a farm show where the coastal hay was properly dry the John Deeres made the tightest bales. Present day balers all seem to do a good job.I would consider which brand had the closest best dealer support.

435 JD is a good baler. Improvement on the new balers will be marginal over the 435 IMO.

I assume you are going to a 4 ft wide baler so you can transport them on the road easier.

I have used Vermeers and found them to be well made. New Hollands seem to be made a little lighter.

Vermeers use cheaper flat belts instead of those expensive diamond tread belts on the JDs. Of course, I have never worn out a belt either on my small operation.
