I use one on my '48 TE20 and it works just fine. Paid $45 for mine and had to replace the blade and pitman. Best $45 I've spent in a while.

There not to bad of a machine if you have the right tractor. They where made more or less to be used on fords so they don't always work well on other brands of tractors. If you need more info I have a owner manual for one that I can sned you pages from and I also have 2 of them for parts

I was planning on putting it on a 52 Ford 8n. It also came off an 8n.

I will let you know if I get it and thanks for the offer of manual pages and letting me know you may have parts available.

I spent a lot of summers as a preteen and teenager with one hooked to a 5600 Ford in the late 70's. Did a pretty decent job on unfertilized grass hay that didn't have much clover or vetch in it.

It was fine until we got a haybine. Haybine seemed fine until we got a disc mower.

Regarding the Ford 501 sicklebar mower: When I mowed many acres years ago with a 501, I found it worked very well, attached to the Massey 65. Also, I,ve mowed with a different 501 powered by a Ford 860, and again it seemed a good combination. I think that a 501 is an excellent mower as long as it is well maintained.
