Looking for a small square baler I can trailer on my 18' x 7' car hauler and bail with my Long 350. I have two small farms 60 miles apart & prefer trailering it to just towing it. Tried having someone bale for me, they left the grass cut in the field and never came back! Never again!! Speed of baling is not important as I am semi-retired and don't get in a hurry anymore. Prefer JD or NH brands. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Grease the wheels well & pull it, or buy a 2nd one & have one at each farm.

Don't see any ecconomical way to trailer one several times a year, unless you have a loading dock already at each farm and a deck-over trailer, Load it sideways.

Forget about baling. Let's go fishing.

A Hesston or Case IH inline baler is going to be your best bet to haul on a trailer. We have a Hesston 4590 which is the biggest of their three 14x18 balers and after owning New Holland balers in the past I would not hesitate to recremend an inline baler to anybody. The inline balers will make the most consistant bales you've ever seen but your probably going to be looking at at least $5,000 to buy one.

Just like the others said, only way I've seen side pickup square bales on trailers is loaded sideways with the tongue and pto shaft removed and I see them all the time going down the road headed towards Mexico. If you're looking at a new baler then the in-line balers will trailer quite nicely from what I've seen. They're not the New Holland or John Deere you prefer but instead New Idea, Massey Ferguson or Hesston. There's starting to be quite a few Massey Ferguson in-line square balers in my area simply because guys hook them to a tractor and load tractor and baler on a gooseneck and gone with them and also there's not a New Idea or Hesston dealer around me that ever stocks them. The Massey dealer most always has two or three sitting out there. If you look around you may even be able to find one of these used around your area. Just something else to consider.
Good luck,
mee

Dick:
I have a NH 68 that I sometimes put on a trailer.
It is 8 feet wide. My trailer is a 25' gooseneck - 8 feet wide as well.
I got the trailer mostly to haul the baler - you'll need a big tractor with a front end loader to load the baler - because of the tongue/bale shute you won't be able to back or pull the baler on a trailer.
You ought to think about what you're wanting to do - look closely at trailers and put a tape measure to it. You're best route is as others have indicated; either two balers or just get the one you've got road ready and tow it.

Good luck.

Well, I don't think I've ever heard of a small baler that will actually fit on a trailer. There are basically 2 options here:
1- Make sure your baler has good wheel bearings, and regular automotive or trailer tires wouldn't hurt. They've got automotive style tapered roler bearings, so they can go highway speed. If the road is in good condition, that helps.
-or-
2- Buy 2 older balers for a fraction of the cost of one of those new imports you've seen, keep one at each farm, and if something should happen that one broke down, you wouldn't be completely up sh!t creek w/out a paddle. only 2-3 hours behind schedule to go get the other baler.

Also, don't be afraid of Massey balers, like the # 12. We've got one and it's a great baler. Couldn't begin to imagine how many bales have been put through it... Parts are still pretty reasonable also...

I can buy several older balers for each farm for the price of one import baler!! But due to traffic here (Jax, FL), crossing state lines (GA/FL), and most deals I have seen being several hundred miles away, I still prefer to trailer. I like the Massey 12, looked at one recently but rejected it due to not being able to trailer it.

I have never seen/found a square baler I could put on a trailor. That being said there maybe one out there but I haven't found it yet. Now if you could load it from the side and then drop off the tongue than maybe you could haul it in a trailor. I have 4 square balers on the place right now and none of them are less then 9 or 10 foot wide. I maybe a little on the wide side because those are a guess as to how wide they really are but they are for sure wider then any of my trailors includeing my semi trailor

All I have found so far are at least 8' wide! I have found new imported ones small enought but they are very expensive. I like your web site! I am raising mostly mixed Boer goats on my farms.
