I know a guy wit ha JD sickle bar mower he wants to sell. He says its a model 8. I dont know anything about these so I have no idea what its worth. Its in pretty good shap but was spray painted over flicking paint and rust, even painted the tire. It just looks stupid but was taken care of or wasnt used much. He said he would take $50 for it so my question is should I buy it and whats it worth? I would like to paint it up nice and re sell it.

Any JD sickle mower that can be attached and used is worth the $50 asking price. If it does not work it may not matter how good it looks. Buy it for parts if nothing else.

A refurbished JD mower should be worth $200-$500 depending on its mechanical condition. Use it yourself and you may not want to sell it. Additional oem options such as telescoping drive cover, left and right kick stands, left side foot lever, gearbox shroud, and grass board will add to its value.

I have two working #5 mowers and another one for parts. A sickle mower is great for mowing under trees, along terraces, and next to fences. It can also cut your hay.

Hope this helps.

You could probably double your money on it with out having to do much of anything to it,if its as good as you say.

Sounds like a good price to me. Common price for almost any sickle mower that works is $150-1000.
