There's been some discussion of late on the record keeping requirement for hay under the new homeland security/food security regs. This was in Nov '06 Hay and Forage Grower, pg 27.

...farms are exempt, so are sales to other farmers and end users such as pleasure horse owners..... .. anyone buying for resale must keep records on that portion of their sales as do processors of hay. Ref FDA Sept 22, 2006 FDA rule clairification.

Y.W. it was something that had been worrying me. I've been checked twice for pesticide records since 2000 (and cited once), and once on water quality. One more book of crap that I wont have to keep up with.

What kind of records could you keep on hay?

April 15: Hay is 8 inches tall.
April 22: Hay is 11 inches tall.
April 29: Hay is 14 inches tall.
May 6: Hay is 19 inches tall.
May 13: Hay is 22 inches tall.
May 20: Hay is 25 inches tall.
May 27: Hay is 28 inches tall
June 1: Hay is 31 inches tall.
June 8 Hay is 34 inches tall.
June 15 Hay is 37 inches tall.
June 16: Cut hay field
June 17: let hay dry in the sun
June 18: teddered hay preparing to bale
June 19-22: rained, (tear em up Noah one more time)
June 23-25: let hay dry in the sun some more
June 26: teddered hay again
June 27: light rain, baled it anyway.
June 28: carried it all to the barn for storage.
June 29-July 3: Had to sleep with the windows closed because of the smell of hay drying in the barn.
July 4: Hay spontaneously combusted, burned down barn and workshop. Minor damage to house.
July 5: Posted ads in newspaper selling hay equipment.
July 6: went job hunting

And so it goes.....
