thanks for the info i have a 630 jd with 4640 hrs and a mf 65 diesel turned up but the hydraulics arent that good im leaning toward the vermeer or jd but the price on the nh848 are tempting but would the chain allow smaller 2nd cutting fall through?

Jack,

If you can get the crop in the baler, the chain-type baler will bale it.

If you close the rock door, it will bale any dust particles, flies and misquitoes that are present also. :>)

I always thought those chain balers ground all the leaves out of alfalfa. Best used on grass and cornstalks.

I would also suggest a Krone 125 4x4 needs only one single acting hydraulic valve. Makes a decent bale

Was in the same boat a couple years ago. Found a 330 JD baler that makes a nice 4X4 bale. Only had one remote also,so I got a Fasse Hydraulic Multiplier from Shoup. Works great. I just leave the baler hoses pluged into it and slide it into the tractor remote and plug in the switch wires and away I go baling. Had to give 3500 for the baler. Hard part was finding a decent one.

I tried using a Hesston 530 with my MF 165. I had enough HP but my hydraulics were so slow, it took 4 minutes to open the chamber and drop the bale. Also the hydraulics were evidently not strong enough to keep the belts tight or something because I was constantly cleaning the clogs in the mouth of the baler.

Not all 50 hp are created equal. What tractor do you have? A NH 630 or a 640 (4x5 that can be set 4x4) seems to be a good baler (I run a 650 with it set to 4x4 for round bale silage) but Im running 86 hp too.

I have a Vermeere 504 G and you need 2 way hydraulics to open and close the bale gate. Also make sure the bailer does not have Hydraulic tie.

I think all round balers need a double acting outlet to open and close the tailgate, (someone may prove me wrong there might even be one out there with a spring return! )I think The John Deere appears to be an easy baler to spin around from my experience, there again you need twin hydraulic outlets. Forget Claas though, they are a heck of a good baler and built twice as strong as a John Deere but you won"t have nearly enough power for one.
