I just bought a manure spreader, reputed to be a John Deere H. I haven't picked it up yet, but the bed is sound, bed chain and slats good, and the only problem appears to be issues with the drive gear(s) for the beater. Where do I look for casting marks, etc. to identify the parts? Would the gears have part #'s cast in that would help?

Thanks,

Pat

Pat, I use a model R spreader. My wide sweep chain cog was rounded down, allowing the chain to jump off. I ordered the parts book from Deere and ordered a new replacement which Deere still had in their parts inventory. Ask that the one behind the counter does a all dealer search for your part you need. If you don"t want the part book, they should be able to look up the part on their computer.
