Rain missed me, sun is coming out. Got a few acres of timothy that could use a cutting. Next 5 days maybe 6 appear to be rain free.

Will it dry?Temps will be in the mid 40' to mid 50's for highs and low from mid 20's to mid 30's.

I haven't ever come close to attempting to dry hay this late in the year....

I am still planning on baling up some rounds, and we have already had a couple of snows. Once a lot of it is wilted down it does not have much moisture left in it. Now the stuff I am baling will still be first cut and I will use it for bedding and feed, so I don't know if you can get that 2nd up. Give the good bales to the cows and this late fall stuff to the horses, since they will stand there and over eat all day so you can feed horses a lot lower quality hay than the momma cows.

depends if and how badly you need the hay. cut midday and ted it and bale couple days later should be fairly dry??? if ya can feed up bales that are green and wet to cows i'd say do it cause they'll love it,

Here is an idea - It has obviously froze by now right? so what percentage of the crop is already dry and dead?
maybe can u pick a dry day - wait til the dew is gone - mow until noon - rake and bale all the same day - leave the bales set out and extra day or so before picking them up

baled some two weeks ago cut on friday baled sat nite. some were dry some not left about 6 bales on the wagon, rained on these twice. mom decided to give some to the cows and they went nuts over it bales fermented yesterday they buldozed the fence over twice to get to it.prefered it over nice green pasture.

Gonna be a hard one. Heavy dew/frost and not dry/warm enough during the day. I got mine off depite what some skeptics around here thought and it came out fine. It weren't easy though and I lost a few more than normal.

What part of Indiana? On the way home tonight near New Paris I saw about 60-90 or so acres freshly mowed. Its suposed to snow here Thursday (chance). Some guys are following the mower with the chopper. 2 dry days 2 wet then repeat. And that"s the good forcast.

Baled some today. 2nd cut wild grass that should have been made about two months ago. It's for mulch, didn't look bad, laid over a week, got snowed on, two nice days yesterday & most of today; raked it yesterday, baled it this early afternoon, done early and it looks like it's ready to rain.

My neighbor baled some earlier this month and I took it off the field, did not feel right, I took about 15 bales of 100 off that were wet, this was an afalfa, not sure what grass mix, alfalfa was planted in 95, it sure looked nice, was nice 2nd cut, lot of broad leaf grasses. He cut it on a thursday, baled on the following tuesday, I was supposed to take more and I'm not sure what to do now, all the rest that I delivered, molded up in the barn, I assume what is on the wagons here ( in the pole barn) can't be trusted, I had told him
we would take some 2nd cut, as the hay they were getting up there was really poor, tough year for hay. Now I'm going to have to look at the wagons like 8 or 9 of them and see if we can take any, for horses, so can't be moldy.

Am curious what others say on this one, specifically for this time of year, might have been that new and out on demo JD moco, or just the weather, he thought it was that moco, said his old NH would have done a better job. I hate when things like this happen, he could have 8-9 wagons of mulch.
