I have a John Deere 943 wagon gear that I am restoring and I need two tie rods for it. The part # is: S 3406 DW, Deere says that part is no longer available. Does anyone know of an equipment salvage yard that has implements? Thanks for any replies!

How bad are your tie rods? I restored my grandfather's 943 this last summer/winter and it had one tie rod that had been broken off and welded into a pipe somewhere along the way. Bought a hardened bolt and had a friend weld it on to the end and than had a machine shop put some more threads on it. Works real good and after it was painted, you can't tell the difference. Big thing is on those tie rods is to get the proper angle to the end where it attaches to the spindle. If that isn't correct, the steering won't work. I had to do a little bending in the vise to get mine just right to steer correctly.

Here are a couple of pictures:

Don't know of any salvage yards.

Some parts like tie rods can be made at your local Machine Shop to match the orginal and might be cheaper.

Give them a try.

Also there are weld on ends available if it is just the ends that are bad.

You cut off the old end and weld on a new ball socket.
