Going to look at a tiller (new) Chinese made that the dealer states has "break-away" tines instead of a slip clutch or shear pin. They are supposed to be very HD units. Kind of worries me not having some protection for tractor PTO other than "breaking tines". Anyone heard of these things or is there a way to get an aftermarket shaft with built in slip clutch?

Go to tractorbynet.com I've read MANY posts about buying replacement tines that were from China and they break all the time. Who would make a machine to break on purpose? Sounds like the sales guy is trying to sell poor quality with a story. Would you buy a plow that breaks the share every time it hits a rock? How about a car that blows a tire when it hits a pothole? I'd just call it cheap tines. Mike

It should still be a standard size shaft, so either a slip clutch or a shear pin should be able to be added without any problems. Never heard of a break-away tooth before, doesn't sound like that great of a safety to me either. Much easier to replace a shear bolt vs. a tooth under the machine, after you dig in the dirt to try and find it, only to discover it wedged itself 1/2 way through a tree root.
