Ive sawed wood with the buzz saw my grandad bought my dad for his wedding presant in 1940 for 30 years. Always let sombody else sharpen it as I cant get it to suit me. Well, cant find anybody anymore around Tulsa. So, im asking u guys for help. Saying the blade is still mounted on the saw, and im in front of the edge, If, a certain tooth causes me to tilt the file say, to the right, do I bend that tooth to the right or left to set it before sharpening it. Thanks for the help

Adding to what the others have said, every tooth on the blade must be set either right or left using a saw set. The tooth is set either left or right 1/2 the width of the blade. You can find saw sets to set the teeth on these old buzz saws occasionally on ebay. Search under Buller and you will often find one up for auction. You can expect to pay in the neighborhood of $15 to $25 for a Buller saw set. If you have trouble finding one, let me know. I have several and can provide one for you, if you can't find one. Hope this helps.

You bend the tooth to the point. look at a hand saw teeth you bend to the side with the higest point . That lets the saw cut a grouve a little larger than thickness of saw so it won't bind . I don't think you will find a saw set any where these days . And I know not one that size you will have to make some type jig to set teeth . I have a 16" saw blade will see if My saw set would work on it & let you know .

Hi Farmallb, my Dad taught me how to sharpen our buzz saw many years ago. It is about the same vintage, it has gone thru many mount conversions, first mounted on an A then C, then SC, then 300U, then 3pt hitch. Last used about 10 years ago.

Re sharpening, sharpen from one side, maintaining same angle, no more than 3 or 4 strokes with a good file and do every tooth the same, switch sides and repeat. He did not set the teeth every time he sharpened, about every 4th or 5th time. Had a special tool to set the tooth offset, some what like the vise-grips that the welders use. Once he sent the blade away to be "gummed out" as the teeth were getting to short.

Hope this helps

Instead of second guessing, you must have a circular saw or a hand saw, just look at one of those, should be the same.

I am having a hard time getting that pictured in my mind so I will try to explain it this way. The high part of the angle should be to the outside of the cut. I rembered it this way the tooth needs to cut and pull sawdust in toward the center of the blade then throws it out.
