Does anyone have advice on swing-a-way grain augers? I am thinking of a 10 inch and would like information pertaining to reliability and durability of different makes.

I say mayrath as well but if you buy the hyd drive for the swing away make sure your tractor can run it fast enough to keep up .

we've had a swingaway since 1984--- that one is still beeing used (though not much lately)

it is a Mayrath and we've had 2 other mayraths. and like them --- we thought the Westfields looked stouter so we baught one as a replacement... WRONG!! it might weigh more but it is not our favorite. We also have a neet little Feterl--- nice one and has served us well and we've just come to the conclusion that the Mayrath is the one we like best.. and our JET trailer has PROBLEMS getting over even the low profile on the westfield.

We have four swing hopper augers, an 8x60' Feterl, an 8x60 Westfield, a 10x60' Hutchison and a 10x70' Farm King. Out of those the Farm King is by far the best. The Westfield isn't holding up nearly as well as the Feterl did (ran about 30% less bushels before needing new flighting) and the Hutchison seems to be about 10% slower than the Farm King. The Farm King augers use thicker flighting and tubes than Westfield and everything else on them is built heavier too. Our Farm King auger has around 800,000 bushels through it and I'd say the original flighting will last to at least 1.2 million bushels before it needs replaced.

Mayrath makes a great auger.

The only problem I have is from the lowest position to get it started to lift takes a good pump.

I use mine on 9 differant bins and its a snap to move it.

70,000 bu a year for 5 years and no problems yet.

After you get one you will throw sticks at anything else.Hydr move hopper is a big plus

I bought a new Mayrath 72' 10" swingway about 4 years ago, no problems with it. Ive only run about 15-20000 bu/yr though it. I got the low profile hopper with two augers in the hopper. couldnt use it any other way that I could see. Depending on the trailer your unloading and how over loaded it is, space is tight. My 96' model Timpte is higher than some of the older trailers but not as tall as the newer ag hoppers. At the time the hydraulic wheels on the swing were $500. I didnt get em but it would be a very nice option. I unload on gravel so its alot of work to manuever it around. This auger is all mechanical (not hydraulic swing auger drive like some I looked at) and have had no probelms. Hutch/Mayrath is a fairly local (kansas) company so depending where you are may not be sold in your area. When I was looking for mine I found very used augers seemed to have a high resale value, some of those used prices made the new one look like a deal.
