I have an old Massey Ferguson MF18 spreader that looks a lot like yours. Same frame, same PTO drive system, same wheel location, same body shape, same gear box location. However, mine has wooden board sides (inside the frame) and dual (upper and lower) beaters. The plate on mine says that it was manufactured for Massey-Ferguson by L.G. Schultz & Co. Rochelle, Il and Waterloo, IA. The manual is still available for mine because I bought one about 2 years ago. Overall I've had good luck with mine, but I paid a lot more than $5. Your machine might be a Farm Hand, I've heard they were similar to the Schultz and MF. Someone posted on this site a few months ago that the MF18 spreader was made in the 1960's.I don't think that Schultz is still in business. Hope that info is of some value.

Looks just like one I have, other then the beater bar/thrower in the back. I haven't been able to find out anything about the one I have either. But I did get a very good deal on it when I got it at auction 2 years ago. I payed $5 for it and it had 9 sheets of roofing metal in it and a couple of steel cables whith cleveses so I figure I payed for one cleves and got the rest for free. My spreader works well but you need to wear a helmit so you don't get hit in the head but big chucks of stuff BTDT and it didn't feel very good.
