I've just bought a Massey-Harris No6 sickle mower, and I'm looking for information about them.Is there something on it that will tell me what year it was made, how many years they made them, this sort of thing. Is there aparticular color for it,and how easy is it to get parts for it.

Try Balsters Implement & Parts, 1-800-621-3838 and ask for Les. These folks have been in business for a long time in Scotch Grove, IA and have an extensive amount of replacement parts for old mowers. They only have the cutting parts however (no wheels or structure) which include pitman arms, pitman arm straps, knife heads, guards, knife sections, ledger plates, grass boards, etc.
They go by original part numbers so have them handy, but they know these machines pretty well anyway. Typically they reverse engineer obsolete parts using an original as a guide and if they don't have any on the shelf they crank out a few more or whatever you need. They're also on the web at www.balsters.net. I rebuilt my late '40's Massey-Harris #6, 7' sickle bar from scratch for a full restoration using their parts and the machine works great. Good luck.

The #6 was first mfg. in 1942. They were mfg. til
about '54. I remember my Dad saying they ran another run of them in about '55. My parts boot
has some '55 revisions. A very excellent mower.
Parts would be various-lots of old ones in the
weeds. Universal guards and sections??. They were
painted with the same paint as the tractors, but
the wheels I remember to be red until the later
years-then were black. I've seen repainted ones
with yellow wheels but I do not believe original.
