changing a fuel pickup line in an 853 Bobcat

Has anyone ever had to replace/repair a fuel pickup line coming out of the fuel tank of an 853 Bobcat? There doesn't seem to be any room to get at the fitting which enters the top of the tank. The fitting is under the hydrostat and has a hose clamp on the feeder hose. If anyone has any tricks, I'm all ears.

just changed ours on the 843 - might not be the same. On the outside of the tank it was a barb fitting with hose clamp as you describe but the whole fitting pushed into the hole in the top of the tank and was held in place by a groove in the plastic tank - was a real tight fit. The barb on the inside of the tank had no clamp. What went wrong with mine was the line just inside the tank split a little and would suck air. To get the fitting out of the top of the tank I just used a very small flat blade screwdriver to gently work it out - lots of lube and kind words to get it back in. Not too bad of a project though. Thanks so much for the reply, it's sounds the like the same setup on the 853. How far down does the pick up hose extend down into the tank? It's such a tight fit underneath the hydotstat unit I'm wondering how I'll get it back in the hole and secured once I get it out!! Was there a strainer and check valve on the end of the hose in the tank once you removed it. Thanks again in advance for the info.

Was a strainer at the end - unfortunately now its rolling around in tank somewhere - hasn't hurt anything . I put a new inline fuel strainer from a snowmobile on it and added a 3/4" stainless nut as a weight- also used a hose clamp. This was all added after the hose was fed thru the top of the tank - I fished it out thru the fuel fill neck. The hose was long enough to reach the bottom of the tank plus 5" so it kind of lays off to the side. Hope this helps, Pat
