I am replacing the leaking spool valve on my 8N loader. The fittings in the old spool valve are 3/8 in. IP.

The new spool Valve I purchased from Tisco if different, as one would assume. The problem I see right now is the in and out ports for the lines are smaller than the 3/8 in. fittings on the lines I have now.

I am at a lose to determine what the fitting size is.

Has anyone here used Tisco spool valves as replacement valve, and if so, what size and what treads are the in/out ports?

First of all Tisco purchases those valves. Do you have any idea as to what brand of valve and what the model of the valve is? Next thing is, do you have any casting numbers on the valve? When you look at the threads in the ports, do the threads go all the way to the top or is there a small area that is counterbored for a straight thread O-ring fitting. What flow capacity valve did you purchase? Also if you did not and can return the valve get one with "float capability. More questions?

Which Spool Valve for 1955 Ford 600 in reply to J Schwiebert, 10-15-2006 18:13:51

I have a 1955 Ford 600 model 640. I would like to be able to lift my New Holland haybine with hydraulics. Currently I am using a racheting top link which is time consumming and hard work.

How the heck is do I determine which hydraulic spool kit fits my tractor? What other parts do I need? Should I also look into rebuilding the internal pump BEFORE I purchase the spool valve? The 3pt is working OK at this time but it is a very old tractor. I do use it to "farm" not for show.

Help on buying the right stuff needed!

You need the valve made just for that ford tractor. It bolts where there is a small plate on the right front corner of the lift cover housing, would be actuall under the front corner of the seat. They are avaible with or without detent to hold the valve automaticaly or manualy to end of stroke and also avaible in 1 lever single spool models for 1 cylinder or 2 spool for 2 cylinders. You are looking in the neighborhood of $300 + dollars for that kit.

You need a valve that bolts directly to top of rockshaft made specifically for Ford tractor remote hyd's. This site sells them. All you need to do is a search "Tractor Parts". Tx Jim

I purposely asked the question because I was trying to the other person's attention. He seem to know what he is talking about.

You seem to know about hydraulic valves for Ford tractors. Answer the question, how did you determine what to buy?

I don't know why anyone would have trouble with the two questions. They are related. If you take a look at any of the long thread responses you would see people build upon the original questions ALL the TIME. That's why it is call a forum.....

I am not a Ford wiss kid and you may want to ask on the Ford form. There is a place you tap in I remember that. After that I can give you advice. Just remember it is free. I have a friend that has a Ford of about that vintage and size. I can look at it when I get a chance. But nothing against you if it stays dry, we have fall harvest to do. J.

The valve has Metro cast in it. I am not able to see the valve right now as it is in another area from my computer, but it did have some numbers cast on it.

The ports are tapered at the top, not threaded all the way to the top.

Why a float valve, vs. what I have now? The loader arms are lowered by way of gravity, ie, not double acting. The bucket rams are double acting.

Sounds to me like your ports have straight thread O-ring fittings which is good, less leakaage but you will need adapters. Now correct me if I missunderstood you. You have single acting cylinders on the loader and you have double-acting cylinders on the bucket. A float valve lets you follow the contour of the ground so to speak when using the bucket to push snow, grade a driveway, etc. The way the hydraulic valve market is today you may have a valve made off shore, The 3 leading American loader valves in no specific order would be Cross Gresen which is now owned by Parker and Tisco handled those at one time and maybe still do and Prince.

The ports on the new valve from Tisco are 9/16 ORB (O Ring). I was able to talk to a Tisco Tech Support person today and got the necessary information to adapt to 3/8 NPT. The adaptors were available from Tisco and are on the way.
