I bought one this summer. I power it either with a Cockshutt 30 or Ford 850. Mo problems. I don"t make a max sized bale, I"d guess 800 lbs. The twine takes a lot of time to wrap, but this is my first round baler, so maybe 1 muniute to 1.5 minutes to stop, wrap and discharge isn"t bad. You can"t do hay that is damp at all. The bales seem to be holding up ok so far. For $1200.00 I think I got a good buy.

I have a Hesston 5500. It is an old machine, but works well for me. It makes a 5'x5' bale that will weigh around 1100-1200lbs in dry hay. It is a soft core machine, but once I learned how to run it I could make a pretty good bale. The thing about mine is the hay has to be real dry, if it is a little tough it will plug when starting a bale. Also, it is not the fastest machine out there. I only bale about 200-300 bales a year so it is all I need, but if you wanted to do a lot of hay, you might look at something with more capacity. I gave $2200 for mine three years ago, and it had just had every bearing in it replaced and all new hydraulic hoses and brand new tires, it had been kept in a shed also.

Dunno much about them. However, I'd say from looking at it, and guessing it's age, that in our market today, it's a thousand dollar baler. Mabey 1500 on a good day. My neighbours have one similar, but older. It works good for them. Never cost them too much in repairs.... but it's like most of those old balers. It's got some tricks, particulairly with bale starting. With good dry hay, it works pretty good though. I spose for a grand, if it does the job, you can't complain too much though. I would just keep in mind that there were a few more modern machines that went through Truro this fall that didn't bring much money.... 5 or 6g mabey.
Dunno. Don't think you'd have any big troubles with this one if it's in good shape. Just don't put a fortune into it.

Also, check the heavy truck trader this week. There's an add in there for Bubar's, I think. They're having an auction this weekend, with a baler, and other farm gear. Forget right now what the baler was.... Over your direction I think... Good luck.

Hi Rod. We are still looking. Have a NH 648 SS with SLICE & net wrap in the yard right now, and was not very happy with it. Like you said, plugs too easy. Did individual and inline wrapping this fall, and not satisfied with either. Bubars advertised that sale for mid sept. I think it is rough stuff he is selling. I did try to buy a Claas 46, but the dealer reneged on the deal by not following the terms written out in the p. contract. I chose not to pursue, and sent it back. Talk to you later. Kent.
