I"m considering getting a quick hitch. Do they really save you effort? I have a 31 hp Hinomoto with bucket on front. I have a hard time getting my box blade and bushhog on the back sometimes. Brian

I've thought about those quick hitches, but I'm not conviced I wouldn't have pto drive line issues. I just use a long steel bar 5' or so to rock the implement around eough to get the lower links hooked up then do PTO drive then top link. I'm not sayin' they hook themselves up, but I can get it done without to much profanity used. bjr

I can't answer for him, but how I do it is:
Back up to where you can hook one lower pin.
Hook to it.
Cycle lift up a ways then back down. This will usually leave the unhooked pin close enough to hook up so hook it.
Hook up top link.
Adjust lower stay links.
Adjust top link.
Go tractorin.
Fer those few thangs that jus aggervate the livin snot outa ya to hook I keep my 8 foot grubbin bar over where I park the implements. Enny body that digs holes orta have a 8 foot grubbin bar (wedge on one end knob on the other) an if you can't figger out why you ain't hooked much.
Takes two or three minites.
How much time can ya save?

I know what you mean - hooking up cat 1 stuff is pretty easy, you can either rock the implement or the tractor, and a 2x4 8 footer is what I use to pry a little bit & can mount any of the stuff in 2-3 minutes.... but I hear this complaint about hooking up 3-point stuff a lot.)

Now, I ended up with a 15 row 3pt bean bar on my big tractor, which I also run the field cultivator with. Cat 3N. Anyhow, changing between the cultivator & bean bar a couple times a day, & everything ways a ton or more - now there I went & got a quick hitch & am very happy with. :) You just can't nudge those implements, and a long day of farming a person doesn't feel like fussing with hooking up the planter...

I would like to get one but a guy down the street had one and didnt like it at all. I seen a new style that uses a triangular plate. It looks like it would work great but may raise hell with some PTO shafts. Ithink the standard quick hitch will be nice but it may take some work to get all your implaments to fit.

Do you always hook up the lower links first?

Work good on the big tractors.

Work good on paper with the cat 1 stuff. Make sure all your implements have the same dimensions (the width of the pins - some manufaturers cheat a little and don't do the exact standard). As well, the top link on many implements is at different heigths, as well as having a bolt or other frame member below the top link point which prevents the hook from having room to slide in place.

If all your implements are equal, it works real well.

If you want to find out on the cheap, Harbor Freight offers one for $70, if there's a store near you they stock them now.
