IH 5100 Grain Drill

I am totally new to grain drills. Have been using planters and broadasting depending on crop.

Have found a IH5100 that is about 8 feet wide with 7 1/2 spacing with chains to cover with for $1100. I have not seen it but dealer says it is in really good shape, just painted and no repairs needed.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreicated greatly.

I would want to plant wheat, soybeans and peanuts with it. Understand corn is not an option with any grain drill.

Remember the drill runs at a different speed when planting soybeans as opposed to wheat. If you are buying a 5100 be sure it is a "soybean special". Means it will have two sets of gears.

By different speed, is this the gears on the left end? I did not take the cover off but it looks like there is a shaft with two gears about same size on it.

Depends on how much you plant and what kind of shape the drill is in. Also is this single disk with chains? Depending on the area, if you look hard enough you can find a 13ft for $1,000. However I've seen them for $4000. If it's only single disk with chains, I wouldn't pay a lot for it. They are good drills. If it has press wheels check for play in them. Good luck.
