Seed drill question

I have several small plots to seed with dryland pasture grass this fall. I can rent a drill from a seed dealer for $500 a week but he's 60 miles away and by the time I hook up the trailer, make two round trips, etc. I figure I'm better off buying an old one at auction for a couple of hundred.

What do I look for? I understand that not all drills can handle grass seed. Broadcasting is not recommended in my area because its too dry and windy.

I don't know about other areas, but in our county the conservation district has a no-till drill available.

Around here I can rent one for eight dollars an acre. He delivers, sets it up, comes and gets it when I am done. He does have a minnimum charge.

Id a lot rather have a good one that works right for the money as have to make a dozen trips to get parts and then end up with a half a stand.

If you have a close neighbor nearby that's a farmer he may be willing to drill your seed. Hal
