Bought a self propelled 178 NH from my neighbor. Got it running and made 1200 bales of third crop. What a fun machine to operate. Anyone have experience with them? They sure eat up the hay and fast.

This is my 1280. Thats my daughter driving it. I've only baled about 1000 bales with it. But, that was fun. I think I've had it about 10 years now. I picked it up at a auction. Got it for $1600.

Mine looks to be in about the same shape. Also, mine does not have the thrower. Cool Machine.

George,

Thank you for posting the picture. I have never seen anything like that before! Really cool idea and would be great for a small scale operation. Any idea on the HP & weight of the machine or how many were built?

Thanks,
Mark

Freeman Equipment (part of Allied Systems) in Oregon still makes a self-propelled baler.

I really don't know. Would guess you add the price of a baler and tractor together?

Maybe someone from Freeman or one of their distributors can jump in here?

I've seen a couple of old Freeman self propelleds working locally, but (personal observation) I think they have really niche-marketed themselves into the large beef operations in WA/OR/Northern CA. They just don't have that big of a marketshare or presence, even in their local region.

(You could check out the Capital Press, a Western states Ag paper - their classifieds or equipment section would have listings. I'm not a subscriber.)
