On our 605h, when the baler is empty, the gauge on the hydraulic tension gauge reads at 2000, which from the manual is the max allowable starting pressure.

As the bale starts forming, from what I recall the needle looks like it's pointing straight down and is jumping around a lot, so I was wondering if that was normal? I would think it would stay at 2000 or so if that is what the pressure relief valve is set for.

The center of these bales are really soft, I was expecting a somewhat firmer center on these bales...is that normal?

The gauge should read 0 when it resets after you dump a bale. The gate closes and resets the cylinder. The hole in the belt tightening is oblique so you start the core of the bale with spring tension alone. If you are making good quality bales your gauge is likely gone bad. If your bale quality is not what you think it should be, then you need to remove the cylinder, check it on a test stand if repairs are needed, recharge the cylinder and reinstall the cylinder and top off the vertical tube up with 90w gear oil.

I have a mf 1560 same as a 605F. What I can remeber from the manual it is correct. I believe you need to start a core in the baler to adjust the hydraulic tenioner. My cores have never been that tight either. I'll check my manual tonight when I get to the house.
