Hi, my father (not forum savy) is in need of a new belt for his sickle bar hay cutter (not sure technical name). Here on some pictures. Any advice, either another forum, person or store to contact would be greatly appreciated. I understand the belt is slipping and cannot be adjusted any further....

Looks of ur adjuster bolt ...It might be the wrong bolt. They didn't put carriage bolts in for adjustment bolts...ah.Get the right one..Is the bolt to short? Maybe just a longer bolt might get you going if its too short.Do you have any adiustment left? Or take out link..But would get a different bolt...Make it easier to turn..idontno

That is a second gen Dearborn mower 14-16 or 14-56 that isn't the right belt the belts are still made for that machine . A local dealer that repairs 2/9 & 8N's keeps belts for that mower he has 3 or 4 used mowers for parts in his yard . I have older 14-2 Dearborn witch uses 2 belts he had them in stock . if you want will give you his name .

As others say, that ain't the right belt for you. Will do much better with a real v-belt. Any NAPA or other good parts/farm store should be able to order in what you need. Measure it as someone suggested, & get a good belt.

Thanks for the information everyone. I have passed this along to my dad and am awaiting his response. He inherited the machine when he bought the farm about 30 yrs ago I think anyways, so I'm not sure when the incorrect belt was put on it, I do know that one like it worked well for many years. Still waiting on make and model as well..... Thanks again!

More info. Dad was able to find a new belt last year. The belt pictured is that one. He says he has tightened it to the point of almost breaking the belt, however once he cutting in really thick grass it just starts slipping.

He say the material is similar to a sidewall of a tire, they are hard without much flex or grip.

That's a 'segmented' belt-you can get the length you need by adding or subtracting links. If the belt is in good shape, other than being stretched, just loosen the tightener all the way to the left, remove the belt, take out one or two links, reconnect and reinstall. Tighten to the right until the belt is snug.

O.K. some more info. My father believes it was a Mow Master brand. He's looking for the serial number and make today. He's found similar belts but all to long.

He's very handy, if he could remove a link I'm sure he would have, however, I didn't look closely to determine how the links are connected, and am not sure how out of adjustment of loose the belt is, whether it is a whole link or less. Is it common to be able to remove link and put belt back together, how do you do it? Rivot? Bolt?

Each link has a pin and a slot. Twist until a pin pops out of a slot. Do the same to remove additiional links. Might need a narrow screwdriver to open the slot a bit to get the pin out. When you get down to the right length, push the pin through the slot on the opposite end of the belt to reconnect.

Well, my dad said he has checked every local place and no one has anything close. This is in East Tennessee. I'll see if he knows the make and model if that would help.... Thanks!

ANY nearby "bearings and drives-type" industrial parts supplier will have access to a segmented belt to to replace the one you have, or, if you are willing to disconnect the pitman to install the belt, simply get a "C-width" belt to replace the segmented belt.

Measure AROUND the outside of the existing belt, then, get a "C-width" belt one or two sizes shorter than that measurement, and go from there, exchanging that belt for a slightly longer or shorter one, as needed.

OR, if you know the make and model of the mower (I should recognize it but don't), likely the local dealer for that brand could still order a new belt for you.
