Looking for opinions on this baler as to how well they work, things to be aware of, etc. Also price for one in good working condition. I have only used JD square balers in the past, (14T, then 24T, and last was a 336) now wife bought 5 hay burner horses and I am needing to start making small bales again. One coming up on an auction, and I was thinking I just might go take a look see what it is. It's no where near haying season here in MN, so thought I might get a little better deal. Thanks for any help you can give.

Can anyone out there tell me how to set the timing on a 268 square baler? My chain broke while I was trying to loosen it up the baler set in a field for 4 years. If someone has a manual on this baler I sure woul;d like to get a copy of it. I have bought 3 of these from the same person but only brought the best one home so far.

Wife bought mine for $750 a couple of years back. Have had little problems with it over the 4000 or so bales we put up with it. Ties well. If I can get the right windrow it does beautiful bales. Mostly grass hay) If windrows aren't the proper density, it has a tendency to make curved bales, but more an annoyance than a problem. We've replaced one bearing in the pickup drive mechanism, and a couple of the aluminum forks that feed the hay to the bale chamber. (Made them out of aluminum round bar stock.)

If you are familiar with a JD baler, I would stay with them. I had a New Holland 276 for two seasons. Couldn't get that thing traded off fast enough! I had more problems with it, and spent more repair money on it, than all the JD balers I have owned combined. Maybe I just got a bad one, I don't know. Jd's were a 14, 24, 346 and 338. All of them were good machines. I'm not anti New Holland at all. I have 2 NH rakes, a 255 and a 56. A 353 NH grinder mixer and just bought a new NH manure spreader. I like the auger/packer fork feed system on a JD much better than that rotating chain and spring loaded arm affair on the older NH's.

I hear you. I'd like to find a clean straight 24T. I always liked that baler, and they shouldbe able to be had for a lot less $ than a 336. I sold my 24T for $500 a few years back, than sold my 336 just this past spring for $2700. I wanted nothing to do with a kicker anymore. Besides, I didn't think I was going to do small bales again anyway, but I was informed by the wife with her new horses I could either make them, or buy them. One look at the prices of hay in the paper and I knew I was going back to making squares!

It's about 175 miles north of the Twin Cities, or 60 miles north east of Brainerd. Reinhardt Auction Company.

No, quite a bit farther east. Palisade, Hill City, or about 30 miles South of Grand Rapids.

Good idea if I can find out who owned it. This is a large consignment auction. The(Reinhardt's) hold one at their ranch Spring and Fall.
