Vermeer 605h cv joint...

I was baling this evening when the CV joint on the front of the PTO shaft started wobbling so I shut the PTO off, turns out the round plate in the middle of the CV joint that has the round fitting on each side had one of the round fittings break.

Any idea how common this is to have happen? What causes this? Turning to tight, or old age?

I'm going to call the Vermeer dealer in the morning, hopefully they have one, any idea how much it is?

The 605H baler came with a 70 degree CV joint. That baler is 20 years old or older. That CV joint needs lots of grease not just a shot once a year but 10-20 shots every time you use the baler. The parts are available at any Vermeer dealer. Just remember that a complete front half shaft with shielding and a 80 degree CV joint is $390.00 so if the parts needed cost over $150-200 you might be better served investing in a new front half.

Thanks for the advice Hay Dr ( again I mean ).

The piece I needed was only $51 and is called a guide disc.

I found one at a Vermeer dealer not to far away, put it in with new bolts holding the cv joint together and finished up my baling today.
