Anyone ever used one? What are the pros/cons? I've seen the ones (I THINK made by Kuhn?) that are PTO driven and look similar to a tedder. Just wondering.

We own two Kuhn's now. The original machine is the right left hand delivery and the new one a right hand delivery. We had to replace the main hub dive spline this summer on the older rake, (a $400 repair). Most likely due to "hard" starts over the years. My suggestion is to make sure you always "feather" the PTO when starting a rotary. Otherwise, love them, makes beautiful windrows, no problems with rocks or otherwise.

A couple weeks ago we demo'd a Kuhn GA 4120 rotary rake and were happy enough with it to buy it. It rakes very clean and leaves a very fluffy windrow that should dry faster. We used to run wheel rakes then about three years ago we switched to a bar rake which we felt was in improvement but so far what I've seen from the rotary rake puts it ahead of either of the other types of rakes.

I have owned a Kuhn rotary for three seasons and I am more than happy with it. It makes a nice fluffy windrow. I wouldn't make hay with out one now. I have a John Deere reel rake and rarely use it. It ropes the windrow.

I have a Miller 1150 that I bought new a few years ago. I have a Farmall 230 pulling it this year & have never had any problems pulling it.
I use it mainly on Marsh hay & it does a good job of fluffing up the hay instaed of making ropes.
In the past I used a Case VAC & had no problems with not having enough power to pull it. The only repairs I have had in 5 years have been flat tires. They use such soft rubber that sometimes the stubble pokes holes in them.

I own one and have been satisfied with it.It was purchased used and had a few of sweep tines broken off.I realized that it was out of balance but it was pressed into service.I had a very reliable helper who did not understand balance versus speed.I looked out over the field and saw that he was really running hooked up,fast as he could go.Result, lots of damage.Required a lot of grinding out of cracks and rewelding of the main canopy plus $400 for machine work.It is now as good as new.If you are considering a used one inspect very carefully for cracks and any missing or broken sweeps.I am happy with this machine however if you will own one never operate it with damaged sweeps.

I've got a Kuhn, 14' model with right hand delivery. It works good. No problems so far in 2 seasons. Rakes clean, works fast as you want to drive. Downside is that it likes to rake rocks and just about anything else that's on the ground along with the hay, unless mabey you leave the stubble a bit long... The other downside is that this model weighs 3/4 of a tonne, hanging way out behind, and wants a stout tractor to lift and carry it. I get by with a Ford 3930. My old 4000 won't lift it properly. With most new tractors that fall into the compact utility class, or any utility from the early 80's back, you would want a 60 HP tractor to handle it safely. My 3930 carries a front loader for ballast with that rake on all but level ground..... I would not hesitate to buy another. All said, I'm fairly happy with it.
