Does anyone have any thoughts on a John Deere 336 haybaler? Are they good balers? Any idea of what one in good condition is worth?

Thanks, Ed

Great balers, I've still got the one my dad bought new the when they first came out in the early 70's. I keep aiming to trade it in on a 338 but it does such a good job I hate to part with it. It ran 10,000 bales a year for 10 years for me (no telling how many dad put through it). Now, it does anywhere from 3000-4000 bales. Almost never any trouble. Probably the lowest cost item I have on the farm in terms of upkeep. Dealer offered me 3500 trade in, about where they sell here.

Saw one at a sale on Sat. Seems like it went for $1500 or so (can't remember the exact #) I thought it was a pretty good deal for our area (Central NC).

MH,
Where was this sale and who put it on? I bid on a 336 last week but it went for more than I wanted to spend on it. The price was $2800.00
This was in Zebulon NC

This was over in Archdale, same outfit that put the one over in Zebulon on (EB Harris) I thought prices were about right for the most part. There were a few deals to be had (like that baler). I ended up with a rake and a planter. Probably should have bid on the baler, but I had just bought the rake & was busy second guessing myself...

I have had 336's for 20 years (on my 2nd one) & have put 10,000 bales a year through them. They work very well with some maintaince. Plunger bushing is one thing to keep greased well. Have not had any real knotter problems to speak of. Weak point for me is the pickup & plugging in heavy hay. If buying one get the Deere manual for balers. It gives lots of info.

I have had one for 3 years and put 5,000 bales through it with out no trouble. I have seen them go from 1,500 to $5,000 dollars.

I"ve had one for 3 years and between 2000 - 5000 bales a year. No problems except slight banana. Meant to drill another set of holes in the packer to see if that helps.

Misses 1 tie every 1000 bales. Can"t complain at all.
