baler to make hay cubes?

Ok this may sound stupid, because I don't know the process to make the cubes. Why can't a baler be modified to make the little 1x1 hay cubes you can buy bagged or in bulk. The hay would be easier to handle with machinery, (Nothin I hate more than humping bales into the loft on a hot steamy summer night.) It seems to me the packer on a baler is already pretty strong. Make the face smaller and squeeze the hay through a taperered funnel.

It takes more horsepower than you think on old cubers like the ones John Deere use to make. Takes a lot of fuel to feed those big screaming Detroits too. Water carried on machine and conditions have to be just right too or cubes fall apart. Feed mills can make them much cheaper than you can with newer electric powered cubers. The cubers mills run cost a lot too.

My little massey #10 will make a cube. I think its 18" x 18" but I did that by mistake and moved the stop on the metering rod the wrong way. The release-valve in my head was stuck that day, too much air..Made 8 of them before valve let loose..

Expeirments were done back 50 years ago but the energy and horsepower requirements made it impractical for field use. The easiest way ever invented was loose hay stacked outside and fed outside. But then you have to live in dry country to make it work and some people seem to like rain.
