I have a MF41 mower, and when set up right, sharp and properly aligned with the tractor it is a a top notch mower....but. The but is the broken part you mentioned. I think you are talking about the big "L" shaped torsion bar that basically carries the blade and keeps the gear box and blade aligned. My dad had an MF41 with a broken tortion bar and he was never able to get it repaired and he is one heck of a fine mechanic. A new torsion bar will cost an arm and a leg if you can even find one. You might find one from an old machine that someone is parting out. Around here these mowers sell for $250 to $500 running. Between the prop shaft and the torsion bar you are at least $200 to $300 away from running. Also check the crank in the gear box. If that is bad the repairs are out of sight.

Several years ago we purchased a Massey Dyna drive mower. We paid $500 and I thought that it was just a bit overpriced, but I was looking for a drive system that would work as a ditch bank mower. This has not turned out to be as fruitful as we had hoped. I believe that with some minor modifications we could get it to work. The left hand 3 point link would need to be extended several inches so that the lead on the mower would be at an extreme. We had trouble with material falling back into the knife and plugging it. Also a wheel mechanism is needed to keep the knife several inches off the ground. As a field mower we have been very satisfied. We use it to clip wheat stubble, and can gernerally run over 4 mph. We added 3 feet to the bar and changed the knife to bolt on sections. The knife that we use has hollow center combine sections, hoping that the lighter weight will compensate for the extra length. Hope this helps.
