whats the max size b/hog I could use behind a 65 HP diesel. this would be to mow grass, weeds, and woody stems to 1/2" dia. I have a 6' that I use for the heavy stuff but I need more width in the fields to save time. the toughest stuff would proberly be the grass. weeds and small woody stems mow easily.

A friend of mine who thinks his 8N Ford can do anything recently bought a 5" King Cutter for it. In no time he had it in the shop split in half with a destroyed clutch. It depends what you're cutting, but here in WI where rain is generally plentiful, smaller is better.

We have a MF180 diesel that easily runs a 7ft Howse mower. The 180 is around 63+hp on the pto.

I have a 10' 3pt behind my 1975 diesel ford 5000. That's 70 eng / 67 pto hp.. so that's close to your range. Mows good.. even in 4th or 5th gear.

A feller who lives near by bought a Bush Hog brand two gang finishing mower-it looks like two six foot mowers side by side. They make the same in a triple gang 15 footer- three 5's. His 12 is pulled by a 38 horse Kubota and seems to do a good job. He told me it set him back bout $4200.00 brand new. I figger the triple around $6500.

I pull a 15 ft woods bat wing with a jd70 deisel about 56 hp.1-5mph depending what you are cutting.I mow about 1200 acres a year with it for hire.Steve

I bought a 7' for my Ford 4000su and that's about all it wants in grass. I think it is between 55 and 65hp. I suppose it depends how fast your ground speed is.

I have a 4600 Ford .Same as yours in engine size.Rated pto hp is 52. Pull an 8 foot from time to time but I know its there in heavy grass

I think what you are cutting really makes a difference. Look at highway crews, they mow interstates and such with a 50-75Hp tractor and easily pull 15 footers around here. I pull a 10ft with a 90Hp tractor, and it doesn"t even know it"s there. I think you would be ok with a 10 footer. It does really save time. I mow about 45 acres of crp ground. Used to use a 6ft, seemed like it took weeks just mowing in the evenings and such. Now with a 10ft, I can almost get it all mowed in a weekend.

I would say an 8 footer would work well maybe even a 10 but not sure.
