I just purchased a chisel plow to pull behind my white 4-150 and I have not got a chance to use it yet but I am wondering if I sized it right. I hope it is just right. It is a International model 55 that is 10 feet wide and it has 10 very heavy duty twisted shanks on it with new points. It is a pull type trailer chisel plow. I looked at a lot of brillion soil savers and krause and john deere disc chisels and they were nice but were much more expensive for having the discs on them but the rest is built about the same as this international. I am only going to be doing bean ground so I don't have to worry about corn stalks. I have a high clearance ih moldboard plow if we ever do cornstalks. This chisel plow looked like it had been used very little and is in great shape. Anybody have one and what tractors do you hook on to them? Just curious. I have to chisel some hardpan about 9 inches deep. Ground is a mixture of sand and clay. Should this combo work good? Thanks.

I pull a similar International chisel with my white 2-105. If I set it down all the way it will stop my tractor, but I still can move along and plow some ground with it. I am sure that 4-150 will be perfect for it.

Thanks everybody for responding. It makes me feel a little better now. I talked to a friend at work that said he pulls a similar chisel with a 2-105 white without any duals so he also said I should be setting good. I have tried to buy everything so if the conditions got real tough that I would be less likely to get hung up in a wet spot but I know that could still happen. I think it will be just about right. I will post on here in about a month and let everybody know how it went. Thanks!

I'm not sure where your located, but here in Eastern Mid-Michigan, we can pull a 9-Shank, 3 inch chisels, Chisel Plow {not a Disc-Chisel} at about 8-10 inches deep, with a Allis 190XT (about 90 HP on the pto) or approx 10HP per shank. The 190XT is a 2-wheel drive with duals, so by my best guess, you should be fine with a 15 Shank Chisel Plow.

My 2 cents.

Some days you will wish you had 2 more shovels, but other years you will be happy you can get this through the tough spots. Should work out about right for you. :)

My son also has one plus is has a Remimlinger bar with shovels on it. He pulls it with a 4440 Deere. Your advantage is that you have 4-wheel drive. When we set it down it makes the 4440 work.

I think you have more than enough tractor to pull that chisel plow. We used to figure that with a chisel plow such as you describe, it would require 10 horsepower for each foot of plow. I used to pull a 13 ft. twisted shank Kewanee with an 856, which put out about 90 to 95 horsepower. I had to install a set of duals on the rear of the tractor. Without the duals, I couldn't pull the plow. Your 4-150 should just play with that 10 footer.
