bent gate on vermeer 605h....how to fix? haydr or

The gate on the 605h we have is bent now, not sure how it got bent, I started out baling with it today just fine, a hydraulic hose failed on one of the gate cylinders so I replaced that, baled a few more, then the gate quit latching....Maybe it got twisted a bit when that hose broke, I don't know.

One side is visibly bent downwards and closes sooner before the latches drop into place...I was thinking of opening the gate part way, then using the knob to fix it in that spot, then putting a 20 ton jack with a 4x4 piece of wood on it and lifting that part of the gate to see if it will straighten back out...

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Mine was bent too, but bent back and does not want to latch by itself. I think it got that way when dropping the gate too soon and catching the bale.
I opened a bit and chained the bottom corners and applied a little pressure by opening and applied a little heat and it worked.

Ive never tried it with a Vermeer but on a NH I always put a 3x4 on the side that closed first, between the frame and the tailgate and closed it. Seemed to bend it back, sometimes I went too much and had to do the other side a bit too.

I worked on it a bit this morning closing the gate
on a block of wood seems to have it pretty much squared up.

I did notice that the cylinders aren't pulling the latches down to lock the gate. Since I had to replace the hydraulic hose on one of the gate cylinders ( top hose ) is it possible that some air or some dirt got in what looks to be a pressure relief/bypass valve on that circuit? Do I need to bleed the air out of that valve?

The gate will shut ( and it has downforce as it pulled down on that block of wood pretty hard ) but when the gate hits bottom the cylinders stop pulling down so the latches don't drop into place....

I think I found the problem....Vermeer kind of forgot to put a grease zerk on the pivot pins at the top of the gate cylinder....so what used to be a hole is now a trough.

Anyone else seen one like this? I am thinking of welding metal in to close that trough up, I just need to know where the original hole was.....

I will also drill and tap and put a grease zerk in the thing so I won't have this problem again.

DON'T WELD THAT SLOT SHUT! That is how it is supposed to be. The first bit of travel on the cylinder opens the latches and then opens the tailgate. Look at how it all goes together. The flat bar that also bolts to that cylinder end connects to the latches.

Take those flat bars off the latches and check the action of the latches. If the tube connecting them is bent they will not pivot freely. BTDT. e-mail me if you have any questions.

Are your detents kicking out? Thats the way all my Fords do on NH balers. They wont set the latches unless you hold against the bypass. Also, is there a spring that helps them lock, the newer NH balers use them, when I broke one it was hit and miss to get the latches closed.
