I have an allis chalmers b and would like to know if there are any modern balers that I could use.

We used a C allis many years back with our NH 66 with a wisconsin engine on it. It was flat ground and seemed to work ok- not ideal- but it worked fine. Still have the baler if anyone is interested!!

Yep bigger tractor is needed to be safe and not wear out the tractor. A WD, or WD45 either one will run a square baler just fine and both also have live PTO which is nice as far as baleing so you can stop the tractor with out stopping the baler and let it catch up when you get in to some heavy hay. Now here I'm just guessing but if your thinking about buying a larger tractor you will want the live PTO. Some good old tractors that work well are as I have said and also ones like the Farmall 300,350,400,450. Or Oliver 77,88,S77,S88,770,880. Just a few to think about. Shoot I even have a few good one I'd sell that would work well

I would think it may be little on the small size, especially weight wise. We used to bale with a Farmall C and a IH 45 baler, but it was on fairly flat ground. Did a good job of it, byt you could hear every stroke in the governor.

It would work in single rows of hay -- my dad used a john deere M for years to rake and bale hay it think that only around 16 hp or so randy

We baled hay with a Farmall BN for years. That would be about the equal of an AC B. Everytime the flywheel rolled over you could feel the torque on the back end. It survived many years of baling and is still running today. We pulled a NH S66 baler and sometimes it plugged upn heavy hay, but you learn to rake it in single rows. Also you could get a baler with a motor on it.

I'm with old, a AC B is a fine tractor, but it is a little small for bailer work. I currently bale with a 730 case CK and at 57 pto HP it does a good job, before it was rebuilt, it would struggle a little in heavy windrows with a full wagon behind it....a B would be like the tail wagging the dog... Also a baler can rock a 7000 lb tractor when loaded by a heavy windrow,(inerta from the flyweel&plunger) I can't imagine what the ride on a 2200lb tractor would be like....also the band brakes on a B are a little marginal for anything with that much weight,especially if you are haying hilly ground..just my 2c worth....Shawn

Simple answer is NO. Your B is around 22HP and a square baler needs around 12-15 HP to make it work. Then on your B you wouldn't have enough power to pull it. There are some older balers that had there own engine and if you could find one of them you B would pull it but even then unless your on flat ground it might be a little to much for it and also being safe to do. Allis did make a rotobaler years ago that a B will pull just find but the find one of them that is good might be hard to do, and you have to kow how to run one of them or you get some funny bales and or a broken baler. BTDT and my self I will not own another rotobaler

I have baled with a jd 14T and a Kubota l2350, 25 gross hp, so maybe 20 pto hp. It rocked back and forth a bit when the plunger was moving but didn't have any trouble baling hay with it.

Weight and traction are concerns, I didn't try and pull a wagon ( nobody to ride and work it anyhow ) and I was careful on the slopes to not let the baler shove the tractor where I didn't want to go.

The shear bolt would break if I slugged to much hay in the baler, that would happen before the tractor's governor even kicked in.

Compareing a Kubota to an Allis B is almost like compareing a Chev LUV to a Chev 1/2 ton truck. The Luv will pull a lot and for that matter a lot more then you should with something that small. Your Kubota maybe about the same size as far as HP but when it comes to turque power your Kobota has a whole lot more torque then a B ever will have. Sort of like my Ford 841 which is 45HP and my Oliver 77 which is 38HP. The oliver will out pull the Ford hands down, again its not the HP but the torque power that makes the differance. An Allis B might pull a small baler but not well and not safelly either
