I have a 605c baler and would love to upgrade to an open throat model but can't afford it right now. I only bale about 75 or so bales a year so right now the old c is ok. Problem I am having is the hay is building up between the starting fingers and the belts also the roller above it has a roller knife on it and the hay will build up under it. How close should the starter fingers be to the belts and how close should the knife be the other roller any help appreciated thanks. K.T.

Thanks for the tips 2t2@ia. Baled 26 bales Sat. evening had afew problems. But if it did'nt give a little trouble I would'nt know how to act. I did'nt have a chance to adust my roller knife like 504 baler guy told me ( which I hope to do this week before baling the next field) I was trying to get it before the rain. But I noticed that the field was part coastal pretty short stemmed and the rest was field grass and brown top . The coastal of course dryed sooner than the field grass. When it would get to the coastal it was dryer and did'nt want to feed good . But still had the clogging problem but not quite as bad as before. I think from what I can find out You're right every one says the c baler likes conditions just right. So again thanks for the tips. K.T

Hi:
A little bit off topic, but we had a 605C for several years, bought it new when we had cattle. When the dryness of the product was just right, we could bale almost without any trouble. When the product was slightly too damp or too dry, it would plug up where you are speaking of and also just simply wouldn't feed. Any 605C is pretty old, and it would be an iffy proposition to pay for major modifications. Hope things work well.

In some conditions it works better to take the knife out, espically in short dry hay. Other wise the width of a credit card is a good rule of thumb for knifes on round balers.
