Bought a Vermeer 605K last winter and so far have been pretty happy with it, It is a big improvement over my 605F which did a pretty nice job.
But I have talked to a couple dealers and other people and they act like the K series is the worse Vermeer ever made that there are problems with them right and left, if this true I sure love to see the best one. Guess the best ones would drive the tractor for you. But really my K has been good, makes a good tight heavy bale, actually I have made some bales too heavy and have had some people complain that they could not pick them up (just running normal air and Hyd pressure).
I have never jammed the pickup up where I had to unplugged it and I have tried to on a couple times to see if I could plug it. This was one problem I had on my F was plugging up the pickup.
I guess what I am asking is there something I am missing, because some people including Vermeer dealers do not talk very favorable on the K.
I do plan to upgrade soon and get netwrap, but if this K had netwrap I would keep it a long time.
So let me know all the cons of this baler, so far I not had any, just a few minor issues, like a plug on a monitor coming off when baling corn stalks, just had to plug it back in and I was back in business.
I know it is not the perfect baler, there are a few things I wish was different but to me it a good baler and I would buy it again.
Thanks

I have the 604K model a 97 unit. I baught it used about 4 years ago with 2100 bales through it. It gave me problems at first not wanting to start a bale. but found it was as simple as adjusting the door locks back to spec. Now I can start and bale windrows the tractor has trouble clearing. I can make 20-25 4x5 bales in an hour. I had to back off the tension from the normal setting as I was making bales too tight to get a spike in. I'm running the hydo presure in the BLUE range and the air at low GREEN. This makes the 4x5 bale between 850 and 900 pounds in grass hay. I really like the baler.

The K baler was a different baler that what Vermeer had previously had mainly with the drive roller set up. Vermeer did some pretty hefty updates after the first year. The fact that it does not have a lower drive hurts it in some conditions. More that likely you have a later model that the bugs were worked out on.

Thanks Baler Guy. Mine is a 1993 model and I do not feel it had very many bales through it just by looking at it. Chain still has some pain on it. It took me a while to get use to it, I made a few adjustments on tying and that made a big difference.
one thing I do need to do this winter is take off all belts and get them all the same length, I can tell there is a difference in a couple of them and thinking about switching to the aligator type clips.

Stay with the Clipper style laces. The alligator laces are to rigid for a K baler.

My cousins have a 605 K and they have had no complaints with it. I baled some with it and it gave trouble only one time starting a bale. My 505 I gave trouble starting a bale only one time in 3 years. Keeping a full set of teeth on the pick up is one key to good baler starting on a Vermeer.
