disc mower question?

Hello,
I know disc mowers are a little high tech for this forum but I am hopping some one here can help me out. I have a kuhn gmd66, and I know it is identical to some of the NH and JD mowers. What I need to know is what NH and/or JD model numbers are compatable. The lift cylender went out on mine, took it to have packing replaced and the barrel was scared, gonna be $400 to fix. There is a New Holland and John Deere dealer close by but they do not like it when you ask them to cross referance parts form one brand to another.

if you can find a machine shop that has a lathe they can make you a new one easy and cheaper.
the one we use made me a new ram for the bucket tip cylinder on the ford industrial we use to move rounds with for $88, that included the seals put in

A 462 and 463 are the same mowers except the 463 has the heavier disc.

My guess on comparable JD disc mower would be 240 or 260. Lift cylinder # for 240 is EB56116211,for 260 part# EB56201410-price $325.00 Only repair parts shown at Deereparts.com was a seal kit. HTH's,Tx Jim

I think the GMD66 will cross to a NH 463, but I won't say that for certain. What I would do is look at the parts catologue and compare the NH mower with the same number of discs as your mower has. I would be careful with Deere on those mowers because they used different lift mechanisms. Some were manual from what I've seen. NH generally used the high end model that Kuhn built...
You can also try the surplus center idea, but you've got to be careful to get a cylinder with a rod that long, and single acting. You could also rebuild the cylinder you have. Any decent hydraulic shop ought to be capable of rebuilding this one or making a new rod if necessary. HTH.

Thank you. I think 463 is the right number. Was not sure every thing was totaly compatable on the JD, just know mine has green parts. I took the cylinder to a local shop, they said they would have to resurface the inside of the barrel to keep it from happ'n again. That is where the $400 comes in. Was hope'n for a quick fix but guess it gonna happen. Thanks again.
