Does anyone know where I can buy a wood bearing for an old I.H. disc? (I think). The number on the bottom 1/2 of the bearing is J9955. I thought it"d might be quicker to buy them than make them.
Thanks,
David

We use baler twine like packing. Last about 50 hours of disking and try to grease about every 5-10 hours, and check and re twine as they loosen up.

Have A Good One !!

I have some new boxings but they aren't numbered too well. If you can give me some measurements I'll go out later and check. It's been drizzling most of the morning and I'm frying chicken for lunch. Maybe I'll take a nap later.

I"ll try to get some general dimensions by tomorrow. So if I make them myself, I shoud not drill down the center of the tree grain for the shaft, I should drill across, or do I have that backwards? It looks as though they were made by drilling down the center. Thanks for any help, this is the 1st set I"ve come across.

All the manufactures use hard maple for the bearings as it is hard enough to hold up but it will also absorb the grease and keep on lubricating the bearing and shaft that oak or hickery or any other wood will not due anddrill the hole lengthwise of the grain, do not go crosswise of the grain as it will not hold up.. I am wondering if it has wood if it is not some other maker of the disc as I think all the IH tractor discs used steel bearings with no wood.

If they look like the wood bearings in an old cultipacker I have they should be easy to make. I would use oak or hickory and make them so the weight is carried on the end grain.

No, I figured I'd be laughed at saying they don't service stuff from 80 years ago. I suppose I could try.
