I am thinking about buying a JD but not sure what model I want. Thinking about a 320, 330, 420, or a 430.

It there a place that I can find out what implements best go with thes tractors? Like what model plow, disk, cultivators, planters. etc.

Any books that you think will be helpful to me please let me know.

If you have your heart set on a 320 or 330, plan on spending big bucks. A decent but unrestored 320 will go for over $5000 and a 330 could easily cost three times that, if you could ever find one for sale. Only about 1000 330's were built and they are very much in demand by wealthy collectors. A 420 or 430 would be more economical as well as more powerful.

I have a 430 and in my opinion there are far better utility tractors. If are buying it for the classical the JD 2 cyl sound, this vertical 2 cyl will leave you very disappointed. If this remains a must "have" and it needs to be useful, buy the 420 or 430 with 5spd trans and live PTO. The 430/420 was advertised to pull a 3-14 plow, but 2-14 is all it can really handle. Buy a mounted plow. The only reason I bought the 430 was to have a matching utility tractor for mowing and loader usage (I have a JD model 35 loader), with the larger 730 and 830 I occasionally use on the farm. Remember that power steering parts are expensive and hard to find for these tractors.

If you can find a sales manuel on JD tractors for that year they sometimes list implements that you an use on each tractor . I know New Holland does . but they only list their brand . Just use a little good judgment in chosing impements .

There was a publication, no longer published, called "THE REVIEW" which had among it's published articles a complete set of matched implement pictures and listings, You can also see if you can find "LITTLE GIANTS" which is also, no longer in print, which (I think)also had a complete,listing as to what implements were matched for each tractor. Additionally, the books covering the 1st numbered series, the 20 series, and the 30 series also contain those listings.
