Hey Guys I just posted a picture of a JD trailer type sickle mower in the "help identify" area and wondered if you could take a look at it. It raises and lowers by Hyd. cylinder and has a place on the back to hook up another pto shaft and a place to hook a draw pin to. The tag says "type E037M" on it. Is that the model? It seems in really good shape but needs new wood. Thanks...Fred

Fred,

That is a 37 mower. There was also a #11 that was made (older) that looks similar. I have a 37. You asked about where to store the rod for the sickle bar. After taking off the wing rod (nut) firmly grasp the bar on the back side, away from the sickle and let down the bar, do not put your fingers in the sickle anywhere, this is especially important when putting the bar up, as the knife may fall (slide) a few inches, enough to cut off your fingers! Sorry if you already know this, but this one of the first things my dad showed me before I ran ours.
The rod can be taken out of the hole, put stud through flange (hole) on left side, rest of rod snaps in open bracket (right side). Laying horizontally. This is behind the mower facing the direction of forward travel. This is all explained in the operator's manual. Parts are available.
The hitch on the back is for a hay conditioner and runs off the pto shaft back there.

Thanks Superpicker for answering. Some of the guys from the John Deere forum answered also. Check it out. I did see a spot just behind the head with 2 straps coming up that looks like something goes there and I'm going to go out and look for the hole you mentioned. None of my farm catalogs list a pitman rod for a 37. Guess I'm going to go to a dealer. Thanks....Fred
