Hydraulic Post Hole Digger

I'm considering buying a Rhino hydraulic post hole digger. Has anyone used one? My lift arms are fairly low and I'm wondering if that can cause problems with mounting. Also the merits of hydraulic versus PTO drive. Thanks.

Check out a belltec @ belltec.com. They make a great post hole digger for digging in rock

I can't tell you anything specific about that digger, but I would go with the hydraulic drive. I've used the hydraulic drive type on my skid steer, and I've used the PTO type on a tractor. There is no comparison. If you hit a rock with the hydraulic, just stop. Pop it out with the auger, or back it off. No twisted shafts. Easy to control. Smooth. Safe. The only consideration is that you would want to watch the flow specs for the auger fairly carefully, and make sure your tractor has enough flow. The auger I used was for a skid steer, and they want something in the range of 15+ GPM. They need that to run the big motors at any speed to develop power. So if you don't have the flow, it could be dreadfully slow. Still better than a bar and hand digger though...

Just have to watch your tractor's 3-point hitch. It should have enough adjustment that you can hook up OK, but you may need to adjust the lift rods or something like that. HTH.
