JD #5 Grassboard

I have a JD#5 sickle, it doesn"t have a grassboard, just wondering if anybody can give me some rough dimensions for a grass board for it?

Thanks for any help

ps, i know i can buy them new, but i really don"t need to, and really don"t have the time right now to wait for one...

Once you get one made that fits and works, use it for a pattern and make several more. I scounge bits of plywood from construction dumpsters. A piece of plywood 8 - 12 inches wide and 3 feet long is all you need to start with. If I find a piec that's 6 feet long, I can usually make 2 or 3 grassboards. I just cut out the shape and then drill the holes later when the board currently in use breakes. I use the hardware off the broken board to guide me on where to drill the holes. Now when I break a board, I can have a new one back on in a matter of 15 - 20 minutes.

You don't have to be too critical on measurements, there were a few variations not just in size but materials. One of mine has a short steel board on it and the rest have wood.
Just brought a new grass board home that I bought at an auction and it is 35" long and 6" at the widest point. It was taken off the mower with all the hardware left on it. Came with 7 complete 7' knives (3 usable as is), 6 pitmans (2 with the mower hardware on both ends), and a lifetime supply of trailer balls of every imaginable sizes along with some hitches and miscellaneous parts.....all for $10. I love stuff like that.

Hard part was watching three #5 mowers sell for $5 each to a scrapper....one was in superb shape.
Unfortunately I had no trailer with me and it was a long haul home and back and this is not my favorite implement to load and move. I already have more than I need.

yup, i have seen some stuff that i need go for cheap before, and kinda makes me wish that i bid on it...

My dad collects old swath boards and hangs em' in the machine shed. I have a perfect example of a board for the #5. If you don't get the info you need from the link posted in the other reply...shoot me an email and I will measure it all up for ya and get it to ya!
