Looking for help with ignition parts for this unit. It"s not in a piece of farm equipment it"s in a Grove MZI 60 telescoping man lift. The book on it listed it as a VG4. Went to Napa to get points, plugs, cap and roter. No luck, the parts that they listed for the cap and roter were not even close. This machine more than likely was made in the late 70s or early 80s might be newer we don"t have any way of finding out for sure. Checked for a plate on the engine and found the four screws that held the tag at one time. Looks like it was removed during a repair on the fan housing and never put back after they finished the welding. Napa listed three different distributors but none of the caps would work. No part #s on any of the old parts, no name on the dist but we did find these #s on the back side of the dist just below the cap FMD4C7. The guy at Napa couldn"t come with anything from that. He spent the better part of an hour trying to help us. We did a grab and match on the points that were in it, the guy I work with said they looked like VW points so thats what we put back in. They work but I am sure they are not the correct ones. We did get it running today and its ok for now but the roter contact point in the cap is really gone, I really don"t know how its going to last this way. Checked with the grove dealer and with out the engine tag they can"t help. Any and all info will really be a help. Thanks Angle Iron

Thanks for the reply. I did some googling this morning befor work and was able to find a Wisconson dealer about 15 miles from here in Charleston SC. Will check them out in the next week or so. It is a battery ignition system with what I would call a small dist cap, about 2.5 inches across by maybe 3 inches tall. I did find a hand writen not in the machine book with # for the ignition parts that I need. They must be wisconsin #s, napa couldn"t cross them. I don"t have those here with me. Will take those to the dealer next week and see if they are still good. Thanks again, Angle Iron

Bobcat also used these engines in the early 70s before they went diesel, might check with a bobcat dealer

I don't remember Fairbanks Morse making distributors for them and that number doesn't work for me either. Is it a battery distributor ignition or magneto ? Parts are readily available for the FM and Wico magnetos on them and I have those parts too but not distributor parts for Wisconsin. Since you mentioned the VW so I'm assuming you have the smaller diameter battery distributor and sometimes those can be hard to find caps and rotors for. Delco and Prestolite/Autolite made some of the distributors for Wisconsins. Check some of these places for the parts you need.

Could it be you have a magneto made by Fairbanks Morse??? That FMD4C7 kind of reminds me of Fair Banks Morse.
Do a googe and look at wisconsinmotorscanada.ca\
some good pictures to look at. Good luck/
