JD 35 and JD 38 chopper differences

Can anyone tell me what the differences are between a JD35 and a JD38 chopper? Is the 38 just a newer model? More capacity? we have a bad gear box on our 35 and a neighbor has a 38 for sale. Thanks

Basically the same chopper, the 35 is newer. The later 38s had heavier U-joints on the feed rolls. The 3800 replaced the 38, and the 35 replaced the 34. So basically they went back to the early 38 and called it a 35. Oh yeah, a 35 has belt drive to the blower, a 38 has a double roller chain. A few other small differences.

The 38 is a bigger chopper. The 35 is a cut and throw unit and the 38 has a cutterhead and a separate blower.

The 35 we have is not a cut and throw it has a seperate blower on it also. I do know from the JD dealer that the gear boxes are the exact same part number

Maybe its a 34 I'm thinking of for the cut and throw. If the part number is the same for the complet gearbox they should interchange.
