I need a pto wood chipper to use in maintaining a small acreage of pine & fir in N.E.Washington. Are the ones made in China just junk? Is there an American manufacturer that makes a small one at a reasonable price? It seems a little confusing when I look at the stuff that's available.

I got a Valby about a year ago. Amazing machine. Mine is a three point, PTO hook up, handles up to 6" trees. Cost me 6100.00 new. Hydrolic feed. If you have any questions e-mail me

American made at reasonable price, thats a tough one

good friend has a bandit 95 with hydralic feed, cost him $13k new, does what he needs, he is happy

Valby has cheaper units but I haven"t run one

Woods makes a decent PTO unit but didn"t have power feed on mine and was useless on twisty wood, pine/fir is fairly straight stuff so might work for you

buying used is risky, tree guys can run them hard and then sell to the unsuspecting, know your seller well

I have old county drum unit with 300 c/i 6 cylinder Ford, gets her done!!

China wood seem to get pretty good reviews in reply to TP in Wa., 08-20-2006 09:44:59
I don't own one but have studied on them some. The Chinese chippers have to be maintained some and when being assembled there some places to tighten and adjusting to watch out for. The people that have bought them seem to think for the money they do a pretty decent job. If I had an extra $1700 I'd buy one in a heart beat and I live in Eastern WA in the desert. But there alway one of my relatives trying to get me to help trim trees and nowhere get rid of branches. A big good chipper sure would be nice. bjr

I have a Billy's Beaver 6" pto wood chipper. The drive shaft for the infeed is broken at the universal joint (ball type) It was made in china and I cannot find parts or a manual. Did you ever run accross info on this type of chipper.

I think that the DR chipper company has a PTO driven one, look on their website.
