I saw a pull type, single bottom plow with what appeared to be a add on pto driven post hole auger (auger was approximately 18" diameter and about 30" long). The auger was mounted directly behind the single plow bottom. The mounting brackets for the auger were of cast iron. This didn't appear to be a cobbled together "experiment", but of fairly decently made quality. As for the age, hard to guess, but maybe in the 1940's. Any guesses out there?? I saw if at the Steele county fair in Owatonna, MN. Thanks!!!

Sounds like a "Ditcher Plow". I have seen them used to build terraces and do drainage ditch work. The one I saw way back in the early 50's[my age is showing now] was pulled by a small Caterpillar tractor and went very slow. It threw the dirt a considerable distance and had to be dead headed back to the start point to continue throwing the dirt the same way as the last pass. When the Terrace was formed up the "Cat" went to work on it with the Blade, smoothing it all down.

Never seen, only read about. They are also to dig drainage ditches, speeded up would dig the ditch and blow the dirt back far enough and spread it out so would be no bank along side of ditch to stop water from entering ditch.

Dad brought one home 20 years ago, & it's still sitting there, waiting for now me to figure out how to use it.

It was featured in a 'Farm Collector' magazine last year, with some info on the company & etc.

I'm in southern MN too, but a far piece from any terracing.

Dave, I seen one this summer at Neb. Cowboys place...like you had no idea what it was...he told me it's to make dike's in the field [ theres another name can't think now ] the plow...plows and the dirt hit's the auger and is throw to make the dike...how fast you run the tractor depends on how far the dirt flys.. That's the way I understood it...hope this helps and if I'm wrong hope someone will tell me [us ] MV
